We are easing back into having students at the Farm, with the help of our friends at the local Summer SOAK program. I can not express just how amazingly-wonderful it feels to have children back! The animals were as tentative as the students, and a lovely morning was had by all.
We have waited for Spring to return & it seems to finally be here! There are buds on the apple & peach trees, the lilacs & hydrangeas. The birds are nesting, & when close you can hear tiny, hungry peeps from within.
We are so excited to be working with two local organizations to bring children back to the farm, for some daytime adventures, this Summer. And, we are very optimistic that by next Fall, we may be able to have students safely return to the Farms for City Kids Program.
Finally, we are ready to offer scheduled farm tours. Farm tours are available by appointment only, Monday-Friday, between the hours or 9:30 a.m. & 2:00 p.m. Please call Tatiana @ 802-484-1236 x200, or email: office@sbfvt.org to schedule your visit to the Farm. Masks will be required.
Have fun! Be well, be safe!

The sun has been heating things up on the hill. I think we are entering false Spring, which comes just before 1st mud season, and is lovingly known as Sugaring Season!
Eunice is officially a cow, as she has welcomed her 1st calf, Emma to the herd! 🥰
You can’t celebrate pancakes without celebrating Maple Syrup! This week our farmers have been in the Sugar bush, getting the taps ready for the upcoming Sugaring season. Click here to see our video about tapping maple trees.
“Out of the bosom of the Air,
Out of the cloud-folds of her garments shaken,
Over the woodlands brown and bare,
Over the harvest-fields forsaken,
Silent, and soft, and slow
Descends the snow”.
~Henry Wadsworth Longfellow
―Martin Luther King, Jr.
Our cows producing milk reside in the dairy barn, and go outside, in the “cow yard” daily, unless weather conditions make it unsafe. The cow yard is maintained by our amazing farm staff, so it is a safe location for the herd to get fresh air, while the barn is being cleaned.
December 17, 2020, the weather forecast called for 7” of snow. We stopped measuring around noon, when we had 34”! By 4:00 the sun was shining.
Although the Farms for City Kids program is currently suspended because of the pandemic, we miss all of you and wanted to reach out in light of recent troubling events. The Farms For City Kids program serves communities of color, and we can’t remain silent on this issue. Please rest assured that the board and staff of Farms For City Kids stand in solidarity with the protest against systemic racism and racial bias.
It is especially hard to imagine what children make of these most difficult times, and we wish we were able to do more to express our support and concern, but rest assured our farm will always remain a safe haven for all.
The farm is not the same without our young visitors and their wonderful teachers. We look forward to better times ahead when we can welcome you all back. On behalf of everyone at Spring Brook Farm Cheese and Farms For City Kids Foundation we wish you a safe and happy summer.
In Peace, rob
A Message from Rob Macri, Education Director:
